Abstract:
It is pointed out that,in high resolution laser spectroscopy,when a particle passes through a Gaussian beam,the total broadening called as transit broadening should include the transit-time broadening and curvature broadening,and this broadening only has a connection with the beam waist,and is independent of the opsition.Therefore,the beam expanding just means to expand the waist and not the beam size.Some laws obeyed by the beam expanding by use of the thin lens are discussed.

Abstract:
Damage threshold dependence on substrate materials was investigated of TiO2,ZrO2,SiO2,MgF2,ZnS single and TiO2/SiO2 multilayers.The results show that the damage threshold increases with increasing substrate thermal conductivity for single layers and AR coatings and remains the same for HR coatings.With the help of localized absorption measurement and in-situ damage process analysis,these phenomena were well correlated with local-absorption-initiated thermal damage mechanism.

This paper summarizes some new developments in the application of matrix methods to analysing optical resonators.It has been shown that the important characteristics of resonators i.e.,beam parameters,misalignment sensitivity,can be expressed in terms of AB CD matrix elements or resonator g parameters in general.Some typical resonators such as telescopic resonator with a thermal lens(TRTL),crossed-prism resonator(CPR),phaseconjugate resonator(PCR),and confocal multielement unstable resonator(CMUR)are investigated in detail.

Output characteristics of a high loss grazing-incidence grating pulsed dye laser with a non-feedback cavity configuration and a conventional grazing-incidence grating pulsed dye laser are studied.The time-averaged bandwidths of 1.2GHz and 2,5GHz are obtained,respectively.The dependence of the laser bandwidth on the cavity parameters and the optimal operation of the lasers are discussed.

This paper used laser holographic interferometry to measure the poisson's ratio of cortical bone of the fresh human mandible in the occlusogingival direction.The hologram is handled with the picture analyse system of photo-pen microcomputer.The measurement process is fast,simple and convenient; the measuring results are accurate.

The characteristic of the solidified zone for pure metal Fe after laser solidification was examined by optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy.Experimental findings showed that the melton width was increased in the length direction of the sample on the pure iron surface.And its solidified characteristics,were showed as grumose formation,wheat head formation and honer-comb formation in the various zones.

This paper introduces a light concentrating housing used in semiconductor lasers pumped YAG laser.It is a half open housing consisting of two symmetrically set identical right angle prisms.The configuration enables the pumping light from one side to illuminate the YAG rod from three different directions.It has a higher geometrical transmission efficiency as well as a better pumping uniformity.
